Renault Unveils All-Electric Renault 5: A Classic Icon Reimagined for 2025

Renault announced its all-new Renault 5 model at the Geneva Motor Show 2024, marking a significant step in Renault's plans to reshape its identity through its ambitious "Renault Revolution" project. This initiative aims to revive historical models with modern electric designs. Since the initial reveal, it has been clear that the design of the Renault 5 retains a classic look, with production models not straying far from the concept first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2021. This car represents the beginning of a new era for the French company, which seeks to draw inspiration from its rich heritage to create what it hopes will become future classic models.

A Classic Design with Modern Technology

The Renault 5 stays true to its iconic design while incorporating modern touches, such as the compact body with five doors and 18-inch wheels that maintain a sporty character. The front headlights have been slightly modified, now featuring integrated LED technology that allows them to "wink" when you approach the car. Instead of traditional air vents, the hood features a small display providing charging information, as air vents are no longer necessary for electric vehicles. The rear door handles are hidden in the side pillars, giving the car a look reminiscent of the iconic three-door version while maintaining practicality with five doors.

New Electric Platform and Advanced Technology

The Renault 5 is built on the new AmpR Small electric platform, specifically designed for small electric cars. It is the first vehicle to utilize this platform. The car will be available with two battery options: a smaller 40 kWh battery offering a range of about 300 km, and a larger 52 kWh battery offering a range of about 400 km on a single charge.

There are two motor options: one producing 121 horsepower and another generating 148 horsepower, with the more powerful version capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under eight seconds. The car supports fast charging up to 100 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 15% to 80% in less than half an hour.

Innovative Technologies and a Premium Driving Experience

The Renault 5 features advanced technology, including an all-electric brake control system (Brake-by-Wire) and a multi-link rear suspension, ensuring a stable and smooth driving experience. Inside, the cabin design draws inspiration from the original model and uses eco-friendly materials, such as denim fabrics made from recycled PET bottles.

Higher-end versions of the car come with a 10-inch digital display and a fully integrated infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include a rearview camera, wireless smartphone charging, and front and rear parking sensors.

Competitive Pricing and Expected Release in 2025

The Renault 5 is expected to start at around 27,000 euros, with deliveries to customers beginning in early 2025. Three different versions will be available at staggered prices. Renault hopes this model will have a lifespan of up to 15 years, with regular updates instead of the drastic changes that usually occur every few years. This approach is similar to what Fiat has done with its iconic 500 model.
